Farmington Hills gas station accused of 'deceptive' K2 sign

Posted: Updated:
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -

A Farmington Hills gas station puts out a sign claiming they don't sell K2. But a concerned customer contacted Fox 2 to say while that may be true, the store is still selling other versions of the synthetic drug.

Fox 2's Ronnie Dahl spoke to the manager. Click on the video player to watch her live report.

The manager says he thought he was helping the community by posting the sign. He says he didn't know the other products in his store were just as dangerous as K2. The sign reads, "This establishment does not sell K2." One parent who saw the sign at the Mobil station on Orchard Lake and 13 Mile was shocked to find other designer drugs inside.

"Why are you displaying a sign that says you don't sell K2?" David Gaberman asked the manager. "He said this is different, this is incense. I said this is the same exact stuff. He said no it isn't. I said, well, I'll take a couple pictures and we'll see what Fox 2 News thinks about that."

We paid a visit to the gas station. The clerk behind the counter couldn't answer our questions but we talked to manager by phone. He said he didn't think the sign was deceptive because they're not selling K2 and that's true. He also said he didn't know the other products are considered just as dangerous.

It is still legal to sell the stuff. It's posted "not for human consumption." But just because it's legal doesn't mean its right and the easier it is to buy, the more potential users are in danger.

After we aired the story, an employee removed the sign. The manager says when he gets into work Monday he's going to remove all of these dangerous products.
