"The Pleasure Chest has just seen a wave of these new types of customers coming in who before hadn't questioned what they could do sexually or taken these chances they're now taking for the first time," says a worker.
The Pleasure Chest, a West Village sex shop made popular by "Sex and the City," is roping in customers with an X-rated window display and its "Fifty Shades of Pleasure" workshop.
The store is making the fantasy you see in the book work for you on a personal level. That includes offering a selection of ropes, whips and other kinky items used in the books. Customers say they can't get enough.
Hana Malia, who works at the shop, says the book is also giving customers the courage to ask naughty questions.
The Pleasure Chest says it keeps selling out of the first book in the "Fifty Shades" trilogy, but related props are always available.
