(WJBK) -
Detroit and the discussion of where the city is headed in the future
is taking center stage during the 2012 Mackinac Policy Conference.
Leaders there are talking about policies and changes that could affect
those living in the city and beyond.
FOX 2 legal analyst
Charlie Langton is covering this year's event and spoke to Wayne County
Executive Robert Ficano, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson
and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel about a possible expansion of
more casinos into the region.
While
Ficano asked, "are we becoming the Nevada of the Midwest?" Patterson
quipped that "the guy who sits with three casinos in his boundaries
says, aww they're not that big a deal. But you (pointing at Hackel)
can't have one and you're (pointing at himself) not going to get one."
Hackel said he knows the existing casinos are going to be fighting
against any new competition in Oakland and Macomb counties because they
know it's going to take business away from them.
Langton
says, Brooks Patterson is in favor of new casinos, Hackel doesnt' want a
casino and Ficano says no let's keep those casinos in Detroit.
Langton
also asked embattled Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano if he has any
plans to resign in the wake of the current scandal and FBI
investigation in Wayne County. According to Langton, Ficano said "no."
