Gas prices are actually down this holiday compared to the same time last year, so AAA says that means slightly more people are hitting the road for Memorial Day.

But we found where you stop for gas could make a big difference.

At the Thomas Edison rest area near exit 12 on the New Jersey Turnpike, the traffic on the road was moving well Friday evening, but the lines at the pump are slow.

In New Jersey, the average price of a gallon of regular is $3.55. In New York it is $3.92 and in Connecticut it is $3.94.

AAA says more than 30 million people will drive more than 50 miles this weekend.

Some state departments of transportation have done studies on the best times to travel: Friday morning and Friday afternoon until about 7 p.m. were bad. The worst is coming back on Monday afternoon; leave early Monday morning or late Monday night.
