One in Custody in Carjacking of Pastor Marvin Winans

Detroit Police are confirming that at least one 21-year-old male is in custody in relation to the carjacking this week of prominent Detroit pastor Marvin Winans at a gas station. We understand that he was taken into custody after he was found sleeping inside of a home.

We also understand there are several more people that police may be questioning.

Meanwhile, some say gas stations are more like war zones in Detroit. Can police alone handle all this crime?

"The situation is truly a grave situation," said Dale Brown with the Threat Management Center.

He has done private security work with gas stations. Some council members are now suggesting stations hire security forces to keep safe. Brown is on-board.

"This is exactly what we need. We need safe stations, a place that, when we know that we go there to get our gas, all citizens will be safe there. It will be a place where violent criminals cannot wait."

His company works like this. $10 a month and $10 every time a gas station attendant would call because of a perceived security threat. However, the question that many have is how necessary is a private security team to guard a gas station?

"Some of the stores and gas stations already have security that they do on their own. Most of the supermarkets have security, but that by itself is not going to get it done," said Auday Arabo with the Associated Food and Petroleum Dealers.

He says neighborhoods are worse than war zones and there needs to be more than private security at these gas stations.

"We're calling for the Wayne County Sheriff and Sheriff Napoleon to come in and take a part of Detroit, state police to come in and take another part of Detroit and make this a priority because if we can't have public safety first and foremost, we have no Detroit."

A nephew of the pastor told us, "I know nothing about the arrest, but I am blessed that God kept my uncle Marvin covered from danger seen and unseen. He has another testimony to let the people know how real God is."
