Thousands pack Central Park for AIDS Walk fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 45,000 people packed Central Park on Sunday in the fight against AIDS.

The 27th annual "AIDS Walk New York" was held to benefit dozens of local organizations.

Many of those who attended say they walked for friends or family who lost their battle with the disease.

A star-studded Opening Ceremony preceded the 10-kilometer walk, which raised millions for GMHC (Gay Men's Health Crisis) and more than 40 other vital AIDS service organizations in the tri-state area.

Celebrities including Nick Jonas, Wendy Williams and David Hyde Pierce joined Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and other luminaries for the world's largest AIDS walk.

Through online donations alone, "AIDS Walk New York" has raised more than $4 million.
