I'll Have Another wins Preakness

Posted: Updated:

BALTIMORE -- I'll Have Another won the 137th Preakness Stakes Saturday at Pimlico Race Course, keeping alive his chances of claiming the first Triple Crown since Affirmed achieved the feat in 1978.

The Kentucky Derby winner bested a field of 11 horses and overtook frontrunner Bodemeister in the last seconds of the race.-

Trained by Doug O'Neill and ridden to victory by Mario Gutierrez, I'll Have Another will attempt to complete the historic three-race sweep in the June 9 Belmont Stakes.

Big Brown was the last horse to take the first two legs of the Triple Crown in 2008, but finished ninth in the mile-and-a-half Belmont.

Going into the race, Bodemeister had been a slight favorite, at 2-1, with I'll Have Another close behind at 3-1.
