A man who worked as a security supervisor for two decades at Newark Airport in New Jersey has been arrested and accused of assuming a murdered man's identity 20 years ago, according to authorities.
Police arrested Bimbo Olumuyiwa Oyewole, 54, at his home in Elizabeth on Monday morning, according to an official with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Oyewole was a supervising guard for contractor FJC Security and was in charge of 30 guards at Newark Liberty International Airport, the Port Authority said. He was known to his employer and as Jerry Thomas, a man who was murdered in Queens about 20 years ago, an official said.
Under that name, Oyewole has worked at the airport for security contractors Lance, Gateway, Hanes, and finally FJC, the Port Authority said.
In order to work for those companies, he would have had to pass federal background checks that included submitting fingerprints, the Port Authority said.
Oyewole was an undocumented immigrant from Nigeria, the AP reported.
He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at Essex County Court on charges that include identity theft.
The Port Authority Inspector General's Office investigated Oyewole after receiving an anonymous tip.
