Tucson Man Charged with Producing Chemical Weapons

Posted:

The U.S. Attorney's Office says a federal grand jury has charged a Tucson man with producing and using chemical weapons. FBI agents arrested 48-year-old Todd Russell Fries Friday morning.

Prosecutors say Fries is charged with prohibition against chemical weapons.

U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke says Fries developed and executed a chlorine gas attack that impacted an entire neighborhood.

The devices were placed in the front and back yard of a couple living on the northwest side of Tucson in August of 2009.

When ignited, the weapons produced a football-field-sized cloud of chlorine gas that hovered over the neighborhood and resulted in the evacuation of numerous families.
