Ask Dr. Oz: Post Op #21

Posted:

Audience member Altemice asks Dr. Oz if hot showers lower sperm count for men. Dr. Oz answers that while hot showers may be fine, overexposure to heat (whether it’s through sitting in too many hot saunas or by wearing tight underwear excessively) can indeed influence sperm quality and count. Dr. Oz states that the testes are outside of the body for a reason, mainly because lower temperatures are needed for sperm to mature.

Audience member Kelly suffers from panic disorder, and she compensates with yoga and meditation. Kelly’s friend suggested to her that she take medication to further help her cope, but she is hesitant to do so. Dr. Oz commends Kelly for doing the right things to help her condition. He states that medications for these disorders essentially numb the mind, and are sometimes OK for a temporary fix. However, Dr. Oz warns that panic disorder meds can become addictive and unhealthy. Dr. Oz says that if someone is not completely hindered by the panic disorders, to avoid them all-together, yet if the person absolutely needs them, then short-term use of the medication is fine.
