Teachers Can Help Students Feel Safe: Report

A new report from the University of Chicago suggests that teachers need to be more visible to keep schools safe.

According to the Chicago Tribune , the two-year study found that students from Chicago's high-crime areas naturally tended to feel less safe on campus than peers in less violent neighborhoods.

However, the paper says the study indicated that supportive relationships inside and outside the classroom can override those fears, giving students a better chance to learn.

The report is based on data from the 2007 through 2009 school years.
