Audience member Betty drinks eight cups of decaffeinated coffee per day and wonders if she is hydrated enough. Dr. Oz responds that decaf still has caffeine, which dehydrates the body and somewhat paralyzes the kidney’s ability to process fluid. Dr. Oz states that food on average has 20% water, so that helps as well, however, he also states that Betty shouldn’t drink more than two to three cups of coffee a day.

An audience member wonders if deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL, licorice extract) is effective for heart burn. Dr. Oz states that DGL is a home remedy that has shown data proven to have positive effects on alleviating the symptoms of heartburn. Dr. Oz states that some proven home remedies have more affects on some people than others.

Audience member Michelle recently had her blood pressure double and wonders if this is because of her recent menopause. Dr. Oz suggests that menopause can most definitely have an adverse effect on blood pressure, but for it to double might suggest other issues with hormonal change, and perhaps negative kidney function.
