The "Fat Rat" is still on the loose. That's why the FBI is now offering a ten thousand dollar reward for any information leading to this Chicago man's arrest.
The "Fat Rat's" real name is Corey Griffin. He's one of 100 men Chicago police and FBI agents set out to arrest last month following a two year long investigation called "Operation Blue Knight." Despite hundreds of police, FBI agents and US Marshalls attempting to arrest 100 men on the same day, Griffin is one of two suspects who still managed to somehow get away. Investigators say Griffin was not at his west side home when they tried to arrest him on November 17th.
This investigation focused primarily on the Traveling Vice Lords street gang selling heroin in an area known as "K-O", or the intersection of Kedzie and Ohio. Agents says Griffin acted as a "runner" for this street gang by transporting drugs from a prime area location to pack workers out on the street. Police say the drugs were then sold out on the street in "open air" market, 24 hours a day, generating anywhere from three thousand to six thousand dollars a day.
Sources say "Operation Blue Knight" was sparked by suspicions that one of the gang members was involved in the 2008 murder of Chicago police detective Robert Soto and his companion Kathryn Romberg.
Forty-year old Corey Griffin is now wanted on federal drug charges for his role in this operation. Investigators say he is from the west side and believe Griffin is hiding out in the Chicago area. He also has previous convictions for battery, aggravated assault and murder.
Here is a detailed description of what investigators say Griffin looks like. He is described as a black male, about 5' 9", weighing around 220 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes and an angel tattoo on his left arm.
Griffin is considered armed and dangerous.
