An audience member sometimes wakes up in the morning with her face swollen, and she has difficulty swallowing as well. She asks Dr. Oz why this might be happening.

Dr. Oz answers that as long as there is no pain with the swelling, she should be ok. Dr. Oz explains that sometimes the digestive glands in the area can get clotted with minerals, thus creating the swelling. If the swelling is accompanied with pain, then there is a problem worth investigating.

Audience member Cheryl asks Dr. Oz how someone gets Shingles (herpes zoster – a painful, blistering skin rash due to the varicella-zoster virus, the virus that causes chickenpox). Cheryl also asks Dr. Oz what the best cure is for Shingles.

Dr. Oz states that if one has had chickenpox, then one can contract Shingles. Dr. Oz says that when your body builds-up immunity whilst fighting-off chickenpox, the virus hides in the nerve roots around the spine. The virus can lay dormant for over 20 years, and if the virus slips-out through a nerve, it can become an extremely painful rash. Doctors can prescribe an anti-viral medicine for Shingles, and in the case of chickenpox, immunizations are available.

Audience member Annie has sensitive teeth, especially whilst eating citrus-laden fruits (of which she knows that the acid in citrus can cause enamel erosion). Annie shows Dr. Oz that her teeth enamel has eroded over the years, and she asks Dr. Oz if there is something that she can do to build the enamel back-up.

Dr. Oz answers that dentists do have certain techniques to help enamel, however, he notes the importance of massaging the gums, and taking proper care of the gums, as well.
