Chicago Public Schools chief executive officer Jean-Claude Brizard will have an annual salary of $250,000, about $20,000 more than his predecessor.
Brizard's salary was approved by the outgoing school board as a temporary measure last month. The new board is negotiating a final contract. However, Brizard said Tuesday the salary will remain at $250,000 in the final document.
Brizard also said he will not object to having a performance evaluation tied to his contract. Because it is a condition he wants to impose on teachers, he said he has to lead by example.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel tapped the 47-year-old Brizard to lead Chicago schools. The New York City physics teacher rose through the ranks to become school superintendent in Rochester, N.Y.
Chicago schools face a $720 million deficit.
