Students from at least six Chicago public high schools held a walkout in protest Wednesday. They walked out of classes late Wednesday morning and gathered at the Thompson Center to protest proposed budget cuts in education.
The movement was initiated by students at Whitney Young Magnet High School.
Students are angry that their teachers are being laid off, classes are being canceled for the next school year and that class sizes may drastically increase.
They're demanding that the state legislature, the federal government and any other responsible party take action immediately to provide sufficient funding to avoid these cuts.
