The Civic Federation has analyzed the proposed Chicago Public Schools budget for the coming year and said it supports the plan, but it has concerns about the future.
The watchdog group published a report saying it believes CPS leaders have done a good job cutting spending and called it a good “short-term plan” to fund CPS.
Nevertheless, the federation warns that pension and health care costs are about to skyrocket.
It predicts a budget deficit of more than $860 million by 2014.
The federation said the pension system has to be reformed to avoid a crisis.
