The Police and Fire Board in Oak Brook met Tuesday to decide whether to fire the son of murder suspect Drew Peterson from the police force.
Stephen Peterson is accused of hiding an illegal assault weapon for his father, a former police sergeant in Bolingbrook.
The Oak Brook police department contends Peterson was obligated to turn the guns over. Peterson turned over the guns four days later.
Drew Peterson's attorney called the case against Stephen Peterson baseless.
During the hearing, the younger Peterson said he was helping his father and didn't think it fell under his duties.
He remains on paid leave, but Chief Thomas Sheahan wants to fire him.
