Many bank robbers get their nicknames from an item of clothing they wear. Investigators named the latest bandit to hit Chicago for something he carries. It also something many of kids grab as they head off for school. FBI special agent Ross Rice says investigators gave the "Lunch Box" bandit his name because that's what he uses to carry out the stolen money. They say he used a plain blue, vinyl lunch box when he robbed a northwest side bank back on December 20th. Agents say he struck again on January 18th when he robbed a TCF bank branch in a Jewel Food store in the 3500 block of North Elston. They also say the "Lunch Box" Bandit's m-o was the same each time. Rice says the bandit "enters the bank, approaches a teller and announces a robbery. He then instructs the teller to place cash in his lunchbox and not to push any buttons."
Investigators have received few tips or leads in this case because his face was well hidden during the robberies. Bank security camera photos show the "Lunch Box" Bandit wearing a jacket with hood and a scarf around his face. Despite that, FBI agents still want you to take a good look at these photos.
Based his disguise, agents don't know much about what the "Lunch Box" bandit looks like. Here is what they do know so far. He is described as a white male, 6' 0" - 6' 2", 200 to 220 pounds, with a medium build and a light complexion.
He is considered armed and dangerous.
