Morton Arboretum shows how planting trees around your home saves money

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Morton Arboretum Community Trees Manager Lydia Scott of showed Good Day Chicago how planting trees around your home can offer some great benefits – including saving on energy costs.

Aside from the aesthetic beauty a tree offers for the home landscape, planting trees on the west side of a home will keep your home cool by absorbing and reflecting the sun's rays. Trees also help absorb storm water and carbon dioxide.

The Arboretum also began tagging trees last week, placing large yellow tags on trees in the Chicago area to show how much money people can save or stand to gain by planting that tree.

The information can be found on the National Tree Benefit Calculator.
