CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE: Chicago police are investigating the death of a 25-year old woman who was shot over 20 times, she suffered multiple shots in the face, head, chest, and legs.

Police Lt. John Andrews says Kimberly Harris was shot Sunday at about 7 p.m. in the backyard of a house in the 2900 block of West Arthington Street in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says Harris suffered more than 20 gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead about an hour after the shooting at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Authorities say Harris was a witness when her boyfriend was fatally shot in Chicago last year. Andrews says the boyfriend was allegedly a high-ranking gang member.

Area North detectives are investigating the shooting. No one was in custody Sunday night.
