Lew's View - Cablevision

Lew Leone is the vice president and general manager of WNYW-FOX 5. He is taking to the airwaves with his thoughts on current affairs. It's called "Lew's View." The views expressed are not necessarily those of the station or its employees.

In this edition, Mr. Leone discusses the ongoing negotiations between Fox 5/My 9 and Cablevision:

Hello, I’m Lew Leone, Vice President and General Manager of Fox 5 and My 9.
At midnight, this Friday, October 15 FOX’s agreement with Cablevision expires and you may lose FOX5 and MY9 as part of your cable service We have presented Cablevision with what we believe is a very fair and reasonable proposal that addresses the significant value Cablevision receives by re-selling Fox 5 and my 9 TO YOU . In fact we were able to complete very similar agreements with Time Warner and others last year.
We were hopeful that an agreement would be reached , but at this point we do not have a deal and Cablevision may be taking our signals away from you. We do not want this to happen and we are doing everything we can to resolve the situation.
Cablevision charges you a substantial amount on your monthly bill for access to Fox 5, My 9 and many other broadcast channels. They do not share that money with us and we don’t think that’s fair.
They also take nearly 4 dollars per month from your cable bill and pay the Cablevision family for the MSG channels.
We encourage you to call Cablevision at (866-575-8000) and tell them you want to keep Fox5 and MY9.... Tell them you want to see the National League playoffs, World Series, your Giants and Jets games, The Super Bowl, American Idol, GLEE, House, Fox 5 and My 9 News, 21 Yankee Games on My 9 next season as well as all the other quality programming you count on.
We will do our best to keep you informed, and I encourage you to visit our website, www.keepfoxon.com to learn about your options.
On behalf of all of us at Fox 5 and My 9, we want you to know that we value your viewership and are working hard to try to come to a fair and equitable agreement.
Personally, I pay Cablevision $211 per month and on Sunday I hope to be able to enjoy the Giants game from my home. If not it’s off to my parents where they have a service that already recognizes the exceptional value of our two TV stations.

Thank you.
