Jack the Cat, the missing feline that became an internet sensation after escaping at New York's JFK Airport, has been found alive.
American Airlines reported that Jack was found yesterday, exacly two months after escaping on August 25, 2011.
Jack was found in the customs room and was immediately taken by team members to a local veterinarian, according to the airline. The vet says that Jack is doing well.
The cat was said to look tired but bright-eyed and dirty. He's in "kitty ICU" on fluids.
American said it contacted Jack's owner, Karen Pascoe, immediately after he was identified. American will fly Jack to California to be reunited with Pascoe.
The news was announced on a Facebook page, "Jack The Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK," which now has more than 16,000 "likes."
What started as a small campaign to find the cat after he was lost by American Airlines' baggage personnel had quickly spiraled into a public relations nightmare for the airline.
Owner Karen Pascoe last saw Jack when she dropped him off, along with his brother, Barry, at baggage services for an American Airlines flight to California, where she was set to start a new job.
But Pascoe made it no further than the food court before getting a call from an airline employee saying that Jack was missing.
The airline eventually hired a pet investigator, put out a missing-pet alert and even brought in a "detective dog" to look for Jack.
