TAMPA, Fla. -- The wife of a military officer was charged in Florida on Friday for shooting dead her two teenage children for "talking back and being mouthy."
Julie Schenecker, 50, is accused of shooting her 13-year-old son Powers Beau Schenecker twice in the head as they drove to their home in Tampa, Fla. after soccer practice Thursday night, The Tampa Tribune reported.
She then drove to the home and shot her daughter Calyx Powers Schenecker, 16, in the back of the head and in the face as she did homework on the computer, police said.
The mother allegedly used a .38-caliber revolver she bought five days before the shooting.
Police early Friday arrested Schenecker at her home after receiving a call from her Texas mother who said she was worried because she couldn't reach her daughter, whom she thought was depressed.
Schenecker was on the back porch in slippers and a bloody robe at the time of the arrest.
She told police she killed her children because "they talked back, they were mouthy and she was tired of it," police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said.
Schenecker was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and was being held at Orient Road Jail.
Her husband Parker Schenecker is a colonel in US Army intelligence and is in Qatar, in the Middle East.
