Lew Leone is the vice president and general manager of WNYW-FOX 5. He is taking to the airwaves with his thoughts on current affairs. It's called "Lew's View." The views expressed are not necessarily those of the station or its employees.
Here is today's Lew's View:
We've all heard a lot about LIFO -- "last in, first out"-- when teachers with the least experience get laid off first.
You've seen the commercials by the teachers union against layoffs and others by education reformers, which oppose LIFO as the only basis for job security.
The union is obscuring the issues.
Great teachers are key to our kids' success. No one wants teacher layoffs. If teachers are laid off, we must protect the good ones, but LIFO will not let us do that.
Albany wants compromise. But there is no compromise when it comes to great teachers and the future of our children.
