Tacoma Perry joined FOX 5 as a general assignment reporter in 2009.
She has interviewed dozens of politicians, celebrities, and newsmakers. She has been nominated for an Emmy. But Tacoma's career had a much quieter beginning. After a family friend suggested that she "try it out," Tacoma took an editor position at WPTA in her hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana. While working a part-time morning shift, she took a leap of faith and convinced the news director to let her report on occasional stories. A few months later she was hired full time!
Tacoma's journalism career quickly took her to Columbus, Ohio where she perfected her skills as a reporter at WCMH. After being recognized for her coverage of the "Almost Blizzard of 2008," she decided to move south to warmer weather and joined the FOX 5 News team here in Atlanta. So what's the secret to her success? Maybe it's that at the core of all of her reporting, Tacoma believes that no story is more compelling than that of the everyday man or woman in the midst of triumph or tragedy.
When Tacoma is not on TV, she admits she is watching way too much of it. (Reality shows are her guilty pleasure.) She is also an avid reader and loves to travel with her husband, Darrell. Despite having her family spread out from Indiana to Virginia to Georgia, Tacoma always makes sure to spend as much time as possible with her mother, brothers, aunt and grandfather.
Tacoma covers stories across the entire metro Atlanta area, so if you see her in your neighborhood, make sure to say hello!
