It seems like just yesterday that I was a wide eyed 13 year old girl, sitting at the keyboard and typing out the line ups as I watched Monday Night Football! I would pretend I was reporting on the games and even simulate live reports. Who knew that 20 years later, I'd be living my dream!
Born in the Windy City, my family moved to the Motor City in 1975....it was here that I realized my calling was to be the next Phyllis George - without the crown.
I graduated from Birmingham Seaholm in 1983 and went to Western Michigan University to pursue my degree in Broadcast Communications along with a double minor in English and Journalism. While at WMU, I worked in the Sports Information Department covering football, women's gymnastics and basketball.
Former Dolphin's Linebacker John Offerdahl and Head Coach Jack Harbaugh - yes that Harbaugh, were among some of my first interviews. I also worked at Kalamazoo radio stations WQLR/WQSN doing everything from playing commercials for Notre Dame football games and Cubs baseball to covering City Commission and School board meetings. These jobs were all important in my development as a broadcaster. After graduation I returned to Chicago to pursue my on-air career working as a reporter for Shadow Traffic - providing travel times to and from O'Hare for frustrated drivers. I also did some work as a morning show and afternoon co-host at WTMX Radio in Chicago.
My first on camera experience came from Tribune owned CLTV where I started doing morning traffic reports. That job evolved into a position as the morning sports anchor. My ticket back to Detroit came in July of 1994, when I was hired by Sports start up WDFN. I Covered Lions, Wings, Tigers and Pistons as well as Michigan and Michigan State football and basketball - all of which have been incredible experiences. In fact it was during a free lance gig covering the Wings 1997 Stanley Cup parade that the News Director at Fox 2 decided he would give me a full time job. Now four Stanley Cups, two National Championships and an NBA title later - I'm still here! Living my dream, raising my family and telling amazing stories everyday in the city I love. The best part is I have also had many more opportunities to give back to a community that has given me so much through my work with Haven and Child Safe Michigan. I am so happy to be working at the best station in Detroit in the best sports market in the country!
