Securely fasten impact-resistant shutters over all large windows and glass doors. Shutters can be made from metal or plywood. Discuss the type of hazards that could affect your family. Know your home's vulnerability to storm surge, flooding and wind.

A kite boarder who didn't heed warnings to stay out of the water was critically injured when Tropical Storm Fay's winds took him on a wild ride in Fort Lauderdale. The startling accident was captured by a news crew by the beach. The 40-mile-per-hour winds picked up Kevin Kearney, slammed him onto the beach, then lifted him up again and blew him across the street, where he hit a building, WFOR reported.

Tropical Storm Fay Hits Florida

Hurricane Bertha Forms In Atlantic

Bertha is now a hurricane. It kicks off the Atlantic hurricane season as the first storm to become a hurricane. The National Hurricane Center in Miami reports Bertha now has maximum sustained winds of nearly 75 miles-an-hour. Gusts are even higher.
