Severe Weather Hitting Tri-State

A Nor'easter is making its way up the east coast. A Coastal Flood Warning and Wind Advisory are in effect for portions of the Tri-State Region. Towns in New Jersey and on Long Island are experiencing severe flooding. Expect wind gusts of up to 40 mph. A state of emergency is in effect for Cape May County.

Storm Slams NJ, LI Coasts

The remnants of tropical storm Ida moved up the East Coast on Thursday. Rain will increase in coverage overnight as the wind will also increase from the northeast reaching speeds of 15 to 35 mph, says New York Weather Authority Nick Gregory.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the following counties: All of New Jersey, the five boroughs of New York City (Staten Island, Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn), the Hudson Valley (Putnam, Rockland, Westchester, Orange, Sullivan) and eastern Pennsylvania through this evening.

A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for the entire tri-state area. The longest advisory is in effect from midnight through 8 p.m. Saturday for some areas in the region.

NY Weather Authority Melissa Magee says expect on and off again rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoono and into the evening hours. Some areas of the Tri-state region are seeing hail, gusty winds and heavy downpours. If you're headed to the NY Mets or the NY Yankees games this evening, there is a strong possibility the games will be delayed or canceled.

Queens Takes Biggest Snow Hit

Pole Crashes Into LIRR Train

Several passengers aboard a Long Island Rail Road train were injured after a pole crashed into a train car. MTA and Nassau County Police say strong winds knocked the pole off the Northern State Parkway hitting the train Thursday during the morning commute.

Man Hit By Tree In Brooklyn

A custodian working the overnight shift was knocked unconscious by a falling tree branch in Brooklyn. It happened early Thursday morning in Flatbush. Fox 5 Reporter Linda Schmidt reported on the story. Watch the video.
