"Dynamic," is how Gov. David Paterson described Kirsten Gillibrand. Paterson on Friday appointed Democratic U.S. Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand to fill Hillary Clinton's vacant Senate seat.

The appointment requires no further confirmation. Clinton was recently named U.S. secretary of state.

The announcement comes one day after Caroline Kennedy, daughter of President John F. Kennedy, abruptly withdrew from consideration.

Problems with her taxes, a nanny and possibly her marriage added up to trouble for Caroline Kennedy's short-lived bid to succeed Hillary Clinton in the Senate, according to published reports.

The New York Post reported on its Web site that a source close to New York Gov. David Paterson said he had "no intention" of picking Kennedy to fill the vacant seat.

The pilot of US Airways Flight 1549 has told investigators that he landed in the Hudson River to avoid "catastrophic consequences" over a populated area.
National Transportation Safety Board member Kitty Higgins says Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger told investigators Saturday that he was "too low, too slow" and near too many buildings to attempt an airport landing.
