Scam Offers Pink Facebook Profile Switch

(EndPlay Staff Reports) - Have you received an invitation to turn your Facebook profile red or black? Maybe pink?

Ignore it, security experts warn. It is another scam spreading on the social media site.

Sophos Internet security firm reported that there is a message making the rounds telling users that they can pick a color to change Facebook's traditional blue profile color.

The message carries a headline like "Switch to Pink Facebook (Limited Time!)." Different colors are promoted in different iterations of the scam.

If a user clicks the message link, they are told to share the link with their friends. Then they are told to say how much they love it; this is before they actually see anything.

It then takes the user to a link where an online survey pops up.

The scammer, ZDNet.com reported, is making cash for each survey completed, each product purchased or each account compromised. The scam can also be used to get personal information.

Anyone who suspects a scam is urged to contact Facebook Security .

Also, ZDNet cautioned, just because your Facebook friend shared something does not mean it is wise to click it. If you are suspicious whether a friend actually sent it, don't.

Sophos stated there are ways to customize Facebook profiles, such as GreaseMonkey scripts that can work with the Firefox web browser to give Facebook different looks.
