Celtics Sign Troubled Guard Delonte West

(NewsCore) - The Boston Celtics signed troubled guard Delonte West, who is suspended for the first ten regular season games after a gun conviction, the Boston Globe reported Wednesday.

According to the report, it is unclear whether West was given a guaranteed contract or an invitation to training camp.

West, 27, was arrested in Sept. 2009 after police pulled over his motorcycle and found him with three loaded guns. He pleaded guilty to the weapons charges and received home detention, but will still be allowed to travel with an NBA team.

"Delonte has been one of my favorite players that I enjoyed watching in my time here with the Celtics," team president Danny Ainge told the Boston Globe.

"He is a competitor and we're all aware (of his issues) and we've done a lot of checks and had a lot of conversation with Delonte and his people and we obviously have a long history with Delonte also and we think he can help us win."

Ainge dealt West to Seattle in 2007 in a trade that brought guard Ray Allen to Boston.

West spent the last two-and-a-half seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was traded to Minnesota this summer, but the team immediately bought out his contract and he became a free agent.
