Police believe that UT sophomore Colton Tooley, 19, was the man that fired shots on campus Tuesday before killing himself.

Nobody else was injured in the incident.

Investigators believe Tooley, a math major from Austin, began shooting randomly near the intersection of 21st and Speedway early Tuesday morning. Students in the area contacted police who chased the suspect into the Perry Castañeda Library. Tooley went to the sixth floor of that building where police say he killed himself.

Tuesday afternoon investigators went to the home of the suspect in the 3200 block of Western Drive. Neighbors said they saw police carrying out bags of evidence.  Sources told FOX 7 that Tooley lives at the home with his parents.

Tooley was a 2009 graduate of Crockett High School.  Craig Shapiro, Principal of Crockett High, released the follwoing statement.

All of us in the Crockett High School community are shocked and saddened by today’s tragedy at the University of Texas. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Colton Tooley.

Colton, a 2009 Crockett graduate, was an excellent student, who excelled in every subject, and was ranked 7th in his class. His teachers recall him with words such as ’brilliant,’ ’meticulous,’ and ’respectful.’

Crockett High School will have additional counselors on campus, beginning Wednesday, to assist students and staff who request their services.
