Bing Begins Powering Yahoo! Search

(NewsCore) - Microsoft’s Bing platform started powering Yahoo! searches in the U.S. and Canada Tuesday after the two announced a 10-year partnership last year.

The duo began with English language searches, with others scheduled to follow in the upcoming weeks and months, said Microsoft senior vice president Satya Nadella.

“This is a great milestone for Bing and Yahoo! and our customers, and we are happy to report the transition has gone smoothly," Nadella wrote on Bing's blog. "We feel great about the progress our search alliance has been making over the summer."

A joint search advertising element was also part of the July 2009 deal -- which was approved by the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission -- and will be completed in the fall with an eye toward the holiday shopping season, Nadella said.

With the addition of Yahoo!, Microsoft now controls 28 percent of the search engine market in the U.S. Google remains the No. 1 search engine with 65 percent, according to comScore metrics released last week.
