MYFOXNY.COM - Just thinking about how to start a business can be overwhelming. One New Jersey company helps budding entrepreneurs take the first step.
Rising Tide Capital is a nonprofit based in Jersey City. Alfa Demellash, the CEO, runs the company with her husband, Alex Forrster. The two met at Harvard University. In 2004 they started Rising Tide Capital.
The company offers extensive training and support to new business owners.
"Our mission is to assist struggling entrepreneurs in low income communities, to start and grow successful businesses that transform lives, strengthen communities and create livelihoods," Demellash says.
The nonprofit organization raises money from corporations to fund classes and year-round coaching. Students pay according to their income.
Rising Tide Capital helped Lisa Best, who was laid off from her fashion job, to start her own label, Pippi Hepburn.
