MYFOXNY.COM - A group of teens came together from the 5 boroughs of New York City and as far away as Chicago to write a business plan, develop a marketing strategy, and open their store to the public for two days.
MÖTLEY BRÜE: ESPRESSO AND ROCK & ROLL
127 FULTON STREET IN NEW YORK CITY
BETWEEN NASSAU AND WILLIAMS STREET
Can a motley crew of nine teenagers rock the Lower Manhattan
business world with a double shot of caffeine? Welcome to
Mötley Brüe, a rock-themed espresso bar created by a
diverse group of teens as part of the not-for-profit Teen
Entrepreneur Boot Camp program. Featuring Williamsburgs Porto Rico
coffee and espresso, local baked goods from Billy's Bakery, and an
exhibit of classic rock guitars, the new temporary small business
will open at 127 Fulton Street in New York City for two (2) days
only on Thursday, August 13th and Friday, August 14th. Mötley
Brüe will offer hot and iced coffee & espresso drinks, an
iced cherry limeade mix, and, to satisfy the munchies, cupcakes
from hipster fave Billys Bakery. But, unlike Starbucks or Dunkin
Donuts, this limited-time-only business is being created by teens
in just two weeks. And this coffee comes with a cause: All proceeds
will go back to the not-for-profit organization, so more teens can
have the same beneficial experience of learning the fundamentals to
opening and running a business. The theme for the espresso bar is
rock 'n' roll, as evidenced by the name Mötley Brüe, a
play on the name of the classic 80's rock band, Mötley
Crüe. In true rock n roll fashion, the teens will rebel
against recent trends and offer FREE Wi-Fi to all customers. And
lining the exposed brick walls of the store will be some vintage
guitars, such as a 1962 Fender Jazz Base and a 1964 Gibson Melody
Maker, while the Wall Street-area customers can re-live their youth
with a selection of classic rock playing throughout the two days.
The group of teens has come together from the 5 boroughs of New
York City and as far away as Chicago to write a business plan,
develop a marketing strategy (including this press release!), and
open their store to the public for two days. Its not about reading
a book thats going to teach you how to run a business, says Steven
Kestel, 17, a member of the group, its going out into the real
world and taking action. Armed with an empty storefront (albeit in
an historic landmark building) and a small budget of $1,000, the
teens spent their first few days coming up with the name for their
shop & business, the theme, the logo, and they have already
begun reaching out to local media and community leaders.
Mötley Brüe is the sixth installment of Teen Entrepreneur
Boot Camp, a New York City-based not-for-profit organization
dedicated to teachings teens the essentials of opening a business.
