A new Sonic fast-food restaurant has opened on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., to much fanfare -- and a huge traffic jam. Dozens of cars vied to get in the few parking spots at the location. Sonic even paid local cops overtime to manage the overflow.

Could the restaurant be a shot in the arm of the local economy? It certainly has helped with providing work to folks in need. The location has hired 120 employees. Workers start at minimum wage, but get raises and bonuses.
The opening of the restaurant on Sunday even drew patrons from New York and Connecticut. The chain has more than 3,500 locations nationwide, mostly in the South and Midtwest.
