MYFOXNY.COM - The series of rain storms this month has made this the wettest March on record for parts of the New York area, weather experts said.

As of Monday, the month's total was 10.69 inches in Central Park, breaking the record of 10.54 inches set in 1983, the National Weather Service reported.

Rainfall totals at Kennedy and LaGuardia airports also set a record for March.

Rain caused flooding that overwhelmed several parkways in Westchester County, Brooklyn, and Queens, and affected roads on Long Island, too. The Atlantic Ocean covered a 20-mile stretch of road in Southampton, the AP reported.

Beach erosion has been severe this month, state parks officials said.

RECORD TOTALS:

  • 10.55 inches of rain has fallen at Central Park; this breaks the old record of 10.54 inches set in 1983.
  • 8.32 inches at Kennedy airport; this breaks the old record of 8.17 inches set in 1980.
  • 9.31 inches at La Guardia Airport; this breaks the old record of 8.73 inches set in 1953.
  • 9.32 inches at Islip Macarthur Airport; this breaks the old record of 8.38 inches set in 2001.
