MYFOXNY.COM -

The nor'easter that was once Tropical Storm Ida has been slamming the eastern seaboard of the United States for days. The storm has caused major flooding on Long Island and in some Jersey Shore communities. Officials said the shore could see the worst tidal flooding in several years.

The severe weather in recent times has contributed to beach erosion and other coastal damage. Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., has announced $17.5 million in federal funds he helped secure in the 2010 Energy and Water Appropriations bills for beach replenishment and flood protection projects along the shores of Atlantic and Cape May Counties.

On Long Island, residents of the South Shore community of Freeport coped with some flooding Friday. School buses and other vehicles found themselves on streets with knee-high water.
