Route 17 is open after a fire at nearby auto body shop forced its closured in East Rutherford on Tuesday morning.
Firefighters battled flames at Nick's Towing Service at 158 East Passaic Avenue. The fire broke out at about 6 a.m.
The fire was upgraded to a fifth alarm just before 8 a.m., meaning there were a lot of firefighters on the scene. Much of the roof of the building collasped.
No injuries were reported in the fire. Large plumes of smoke had covered the roadway and fire hoses were stretched out over Route 17.
NJ Transit trains were not affected by the fire.
According to the company's Web site , Nick's Towing Company is a 36 year old business with all sizes of tow trucks.
