Traffic is back to normal on Route 287 in Riverdale, New Jersey.
The northbound laneswere shut down after a tractor-trailer carrying 44,000 pounds of hazardous material overturned Wednesday morning.
The roadway was reopened at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Some of the chemical spilled onto the roadway and leaked into storm drains, police said. The chemical, methyl methacrylate monomer, is used to make acrylic paint and plastics.
Three Riverdale police officers were treated for minor injuries. Riverdale Public Elementary School in Morris County was closed.
