MYFOXNY.COM - What's it like to train for your first triathlon? NY Weather Authority Mike Woods knows. He's been training long and hard for the upcoming Nautica New York City triathlon.
Mike has been working with the New York City Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Team in Training" program to get ready.
It is the world's largest sports endurance training program and the most successful fundraising campaign of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
It has reached a remarkable milestone of raising $1 billon to support blood cancer research and patient services. Since 1988, when the first team of TNT marathoners was formed, the program has helped 420,000 people—more than 40,000 participants annually—achieve their dream of completing a marathon, half marathon, triathlon, 100-mile (century) bicycle ride or hike adventure.
Mike Woods and other participants in the New York City Triathlon will endure a .9 mile swim in the Hudson River, then a 25 mile bike to the Bronx and back, then a 6.2 mile run in Central Park.
Team in Training members will use the event to advance LLS mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, to improve the quality of life of patients and their families, and to raise the Team's fundraising goal of $1.3 million.
The Team in Training program is looking for people to join for upcoming triathlons in Westchester and Washington, D.C.
