NEW YORK - Eight years after the terror attack in lower Manhattan, the area is booming with double the number of residents and an intense street life made up of shops, restaurants and luxury homes and businesses.
Elizabeth Berger, President of the Downtown Alliance, says several factors have lead to the resurgence around Ground Zero.
Many people who worked in lower Manhattan on 9/11 felt committed to returning to their jobs.
More and more people began moving into the area as rents and home prices skyrocketed in midtown Manhattan.
Twelve-thousand housing units were created and schools were built.
Tourists flocked to the area to see Ground Zero.
The long-term leasing of major company office space including Trump, Morgan Stanley and Moody's brought in big money.
Berger says the combination of these factors changed the face of the neighborhood for the better.
