Syosset, New Yok - What to get the dad who "had" everything?
That's right, "had" everything.
Just about everyone is feeling the recession pinch and a new website is looking to find the humor in it all.
IUsedToBeRich.com is the brainchild of Marvin Waldman from Syosset, New York.
Waldman does consulting work and hasn't been fired but says, "None of us have what we used to have. There's comfort in knowing we are all in the same boat."
The brand features what they call a "recession-rattled, market-manic, wide-eyed little cartoon character".
The image is on t-shirts, mugs, golf balls and bobble heads.
But Waldman says the site is also a place for people to share stories and commiserate about their situations.
"This is the first time I felt sorry for people who are very wealthy, " jokes Waldman.
The site has gotten about 3 thousands hits a day since launching this week.
Five percent of the proceeds will go to the not-for-profit Bronx Charter School for Better Learning, co-founded by Waldman.
So so far the feed back has been positive.
Waldman says, "Hopefully we can start changing things if we are honest and start joking about it."
