MYFOX NEW YORK STAFF REPORT
MYFOXNY.COM - Firefighters battled a fire at a commercial building in Queens on Monday evening. Thick black smoke billowed from the four-alarm fire on Jamaica Avenue in the Richmond Hill section of the borough.
More than 190 firefighters responded to the fire, which burned for several hours. Eleven of those firefighter suffered minor injuries and were treated at a hospital, the FDNY said.
The commercial building is attached to a row of residential homes and is near an elevated subway line.
The fire spread to the roof and the siding of two adjacent buildings, the FDNY said. Those buildings suffered water, smoke and heat damage, although not fire damage.
The MTA had suspended J and Z train service in both directions between the Crescent Street Station and the Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer Station because of the smoke.
The FDNY is investigating the cause of the fire.
