MYFOXNY.COM -- Federal prosecutors have charged a New York City councilman from the Bronx with corruption involving the new Yankee Stadium and steering money to his relatives.
A federal grand jury indicted Councilman Larry Seabrook , 58, of trying to swindle the city of at least $2.5 million in city council discretionary funds, funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit his girlfriend, brother, sisters, and nephew, conspiracy, and money laundering.
Seabrook solicited $50,000 in payments from a Bronx boiler company executive after he lobbied the New York Yankees to select the company to provide two boilers for the new Yankee Stadium, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.
Seabrook surrendered Tuesday to face the 13-count federal indictment, which accuses him of paying about $530,000 in salary and "consulting" fees to his relatives over the course of seven years through various nonprofits that he controlled and funded with council discretionary funds.
Seabrook has served on the council since 2002. Before that, he had been a state senator and a state assemblyman. His council district includes Co-Op City, Williamsbridge, Wakefield, Edenwald, Baychester, and Eastchester.
