MYFOXNY.COM/AP - Bill DeBlasio has been nominated as the Democratic candidate for public advocate, the AP reports.
DeBlasio, a councilman, defeated Mark Green, the former public advocate, in the Democratic runoff.
De Blasio had 63 percent of the vote to Mark Green's 37 percent, with 85 percent of precincts reporting, the AP reported.
Green was the first person to hold the job of public advocate when it was created in 1993.
De Blasio faces Republican Alex Zablocki Nov. 3.
The public advocate takes over for the mayor in the event the mayor dies, resigns or cannot serve.
