MYFOXNY.COM - An amendment in the National Defense Authorization Act is turning into the latest gun battle in Congress.
It's called the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009.
South Dakota Senator John Thune added the amendment to the defense authorization bill. It would require inter-state recognition of concealed carry gun licenses.
Supporters say it allows people who own lawfully registered guns that are properly permitted to be concealed to travel state-to-state without issue if that state allowed concealed weapons permits and if the individual follows the laws of that state.
Opponents claim that criminals and mentally ill individuals will be allowed to carry concealed weapons across state lines put more police officers at risk.
