MYFOXNY.COM - Hundreds of swimmers participated in the Seventh Annual Grimaldo’s One-Mile Open Water Swim Race on Sunday in Brooklyn.
The swimmers range from 19 to 83 years old and the race started from Coney Island at Stillwell Ave and finished at Brighton Beach by the Shorefront Y at Coney Island Ave.
Course is marked by bouys and kayaks, jet skis and lifeguards to monitor the course.
The race is named after the late lifeguard Grimaldo Medrano by the Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers in 2005.
Medrano, who was a very popular lifeguard in the community, died of lymphoma at age 34 in 2009.
