MYFOXBOSTON.COM - Sen.-elect Scott Brown of Massachusetts and President Barack Obama are tenth cousins, according to the New England Historic Genealogical Society .
The NEHGS says Brown’s mother, Judith Ann Rugg, and Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, both descend from Richard Singletary of Haverhill, Mass., who died in 1687 at the age of 102.
And to make things even stranger, Singletary also held public office. He was a town selectman in both Salisbury and Haverhill in the 1650s.
The NEHGS says Obama descends from Singletary’s eldest son, Jonathan, who later changed his last name to Dunham. Brown descends from Jonathan’s brother Nathaniel.
Brown is also related to six other presidents, including George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, Richard Nixon, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, and Rutherford Hayes.
